It's interesting to think about how we subconsciously build on the idea of color, assigning it emotions or associating it with times of year. It's easy to do when you think about where we see certain colors in the world. These past couple of months we've looked at how color affects our environment, our mood and our homes. This May, we will continue to address this and the other associations we make with color. This month, our focus will be on GREEN and how it can connect us to the natural world, how it can increase our productivity and the vital role it plays in our diets. May's Color ~ Green
You might be surprised to learn how much the color green plays a role in your life! When it comes to the natural world, green is the foundation of its beauty. Because of this, we often use green to represent personal growth, harmony, energy and feeling refreshed. But since green is nature's color, its energizing properties are different than that of bright colors like yellow and orange. Green calms and focuses the mind, providing optimism, encouragement and motivation. Incorporating green into your home or office can make you feel more connected with nature and boost your productivity. Another important way to add green into your life is through your diet! Green foods are essential to our health and a strong immune system. They are rich in essential nutrients like magnesium, potassium, calcium and vitamins E, C, K and B. So eat your greens!
Décor & Entertaining
Do you have a space that is feeling stagnant and flat? Want your aesthetic to feel more natural and alive? You need more green! Adding green accents can create a pop of energizing color without being overwhelming. We recommend everyone incorporate house plants into their homes, especially kitchens, offices and bedrooms! Plants not only purify the air but they create dimension and pull together a room. By channeling the natural world in your décor, you can create a space that fuels your mind, calms your body and makes you feel more alive! Some of our favorite low-light, low-maintenance plants include: Philodendron, Snake Plants, ZZ Plants, and Peperomia (safe for pets!). HERE is a guide to picking out the perfect houseplant for your lifestyle! For a fun way to have green year-round, dry some herbs in late summer/fall and create a centerpiece that will last all winter! This summer, we will have dried Silver Dollar Eucalyptus available from Local Yokel! Local Yokel is a farm and farm stand located about a mile south of the Secret Garden that has the best produce around! Check them out this summer!
If you were able to visit us late last summer, you may have had the chance to cut your own herbs! We were so excited to offer this at the Secret Garden last summer and we can't wait to do it again this year! Be sure to stop by, and ask about our u-cut herbs! Its super easy and affordable and a great way to up your cooking game. We now have over 1,100 peppermint, sage and lemon balm plants on the property! Its been a blast learning about all the ways we can use these amazing herbs and incorporate them into our products and use them to make new products! The remainder of the 2019 harvest that wasn't brought home by our amazing customers, was either dried or distilled into essential oil. We have created a variety of new tea blends with the dried herbs and even made them into table décor! We have incorporated the essential oils into our body products that are scented with lemon balm, sage and peppermint and bottled the rest for sale this summer! But supply on these oils is extremely limited, so don't wait to visit us!
