Have you ever noticed how color can impact your mood, emotions or energy level? Do you ever walk into a room and feel instantly energized or suddenly tired? As we continue to explore the psychology behind colors in our daily lives, you might begin to notice this phenomenon more! We are constantly inspired by the beauty around us at the Secret Garden. This beauty would be nothing without all the vibrant colors that nature provides. As we continue this series of color exploration, we will take a look at how you can incorporate color into the different rooms of your home, your garden and your wardrobe. Each month is a new color! Check out January's blog featuring YELLOW - here! This month, it's all about RED! February's Color ~ Red! Red is an extremely versatile and powerful color. It is associated with a wide array of feelings and emotions. What other color can be used to represent love, anger and danger? Its intensity can be translated into passion or urgency, it's attention grabbing and energizing. Red plays an important role in things like traffic signage, advertisements, and holidays, which this month is Valentine's Day! Incorporating red into aspects of your daily life might be overwhelming to some, but finding a complimenting shade for your home, your wardrobe or your garden can be a great way to bring a smile to your face! When I think about how red is incorporated into the Secret Garden, I immediately think about our yummy u-pick strawberries! Strawberries and other red foods are known for being packed full of vitamins and antioxidants. You really can't go wrong with RED! Décor & EntertainingIt might seem daunting to think about incorporating a powerful color into your home, but red can compliment a variety of spaces by energizing and brightening a room. Adding accents of a gentle shade of red is often all it takes to feel these benefits. Cheerful throw pillows, wall art, rugs, blankets and trinkets are all great ways to incorporate some color variety into your living spaces. We know this time of year can make you feel gloomy and sluggish, but being intentional about creating a happy, healthy atmosphere can make all the difference! One of my favorite winter get-togethers is hosting a game night with all my friends! I love catching up with friends, sharing yummy food, playing games and laughing all evening. Make it a pot luck and bring your favorite dish to share or suggest a costume or color theme to get everyone involved! Challenge your friends to bring their favorite RED dish to pass. Give yourself something to look forward to as those warm, summer days get nearer and nearer! StrawberriesHave you ever visited the Secret Garden during strawberry season? June is my favorite time of year on Old Mission Peninsula. Spring has melted away all signs of winter, the lavender is beginning to show some color, the trees are healthy green again. Strawberries are typically open for u-pick beginning in mid-June for about a two week span. At the Secret Garden at Brys Estate, we invite guests to bring their own buckets (or use ours!) and pick as many as they would like. We charge by the pound! Our varieties include Jewel, Flavorfest and Galletta. Our berries are spray free and some of the juiciest berries I've even eaten. I love hearing about all the plans guests have for their fresh berries. We have lots of people who make jams and desserts, freeze them for a winter treat, or just eat them in the car on their way home! Strawberries have so many amazing health benefits, but it barely feels like healthy eating when they're so sweet and delicious.
